Common terms used in Digital Signage:

I. Digital Signage Network:

A network of digital displays those are managed centrally and addressable for targeted information, advertising, entertainment, merchandising, etc.. Industry variants: narrow casting, dynamic signage, digital signs, advertising video networks, electronic signage, digital media advertising, digital signage network, in-store TV network, marketing TV, captive audience network, narrowcasting network, Media TV, out-of-home media network, digital media network, OOH advertising network.

II.Content Server:

A computer, server, or storage device that stores the contents that are circulated to the player in the venue. Synonyms: broadcast server, network manager, content management (CMS) server.

III.Media Content:

Media, video, text, clips, and audio that are delivered to display devices by a digital signage distribution system.

IV.AV Distribution System:

The system that distributes broadcast content from the media player to the output device.

V.Script Channel:

Script that has been published and when its contents change, the updated material is automatically forwarded to devices running the viewer that have subscribed.

VI.Output Display Device:

Plasme screen, LCD screen, projector display, CRT monitor, etc. or other devices that are at the destination point of narrowcasting.

VII.AV Player:

The player that distributes A/V content to a display as per the pre-programming.

VIII.Playlog:

The storage database of information created from the digital signage network with details of content played, system performance data, etc…

IX.Playlist:

A set of list of programmes to play based on an order of time and other settings.

X.Multichannel player:

Distributes contents in multiple streams of unique content to different displays and locations.
